Benjamin Moore Paint Primer

When to Use Paint Primer

Benjamin Moore's quality speaks for itself. We at Aurora Paint Pot proudly carry the full line of Benjamin Moore paint primers to help you start your paint project properly.

Many 2-in-1 paint and primer combo formulas are available, but some jobs require starting with a coat of specific primer. We always recommend starting with Benjamin Moore paint primer:

  • Primer should always be the first step when painting porous surfaces, like new drywall or wood. Painting without priming first will allow the paint to soak into the surface, requiring more coats of paint for an even finish.
  • When going from a dark color paint to a lighter one, a coat of primer will help ensure you see the most accurate version of the new shade.
  • If you are covering signs of smoke or water damage. These spots can show through a coat of regular paint; priming first will keep them out of sight.

Paint Primer Benefits

Now you know when to use Benjamin Moore paint primer, but what are its benefits?

  • BETTER PAINT ADHESION

You'll get the best results when you paint clean, dry surfaces, but some materials, like metal, aren't ideal for painting. Using primer first will give the paint an exceptional surface to adhere to, giving you the best-looking results.

  • LONG-TERM DURABILITY

Applying primer first will cover any small fissures and help prevent moisture from getting underneath the paint, which can cause bubbles and peeling.

  • ENHANCED APPEARANCE

Primer provides a completely smooth surface for the paint to adhere to, so it will dry evenly and without showing imperfections on the painted surface.
